Dan Williams

Dan’s role is to operate the helpdesk for JLT’s new product range for micro SME’s. It involves managing the customer helpdesk, assisting with any technical or product queries and developing the service.

He also works within the Product Development team to carry out market and product research exercises.

In November 2006 Dan was studying for an International Baccalaureate when he decided to leave college in search of a job.
Dan had 10 GCSE’s at grade C and above and was offered a job as Trainee Case Administrator by JLT Corporate Recovery Risks in January 2007, a few weeks before his 17th birthday. Corporate Recovery Risks were responsible for running an insurance scheme for accountancy firms who required cover for businesses in administration, liquidation or receivership.

Dan became an apprentice in the sector within a couple of months of joining the company. He says that he enrolled on a modern Insurance Apprenticeship, “as it was a great way of proving that I’m competent at what I do and giving me confidence that I can excel in my career”. He completed the apprenticeship with Birmingham Metropolitan College (Formerly Sutton Coldfield College) in June 2008 and has since started a Diploma in Insurance with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). He is looking to progress to the Advanced Diploma and become an Associate of the CII (ACII) in the near future.

From his own experience, Dan would recommend the apprenticeship scheme to others wanting to work not only into financial services, but also other industries:

‘Anybody looking to build a successful career in their chosen industry should strongly consider the apprenticeship scheme. In my experience not only does it deliver a recognized qualification, it allows the candidate to build a reputation within their organization and open doors of opportunity. ‘

In March 2008 Dan was seconded to JLT Online and in February 2009 this became a permanent role. JLT Online run several web based schemes for niche insurance sectors, such as musicians and photographers.
